June Writing Recap

Hope everyone’s summer is off to a good start. I blinked and June disappeared. I have a calendar full of notes to remind me where exactly all my time went, but still…

We’re officially halfway through 2022. Kind of crazy, isn’t it?

The writing has been a little slower than I would have preferred the last couple of months, mostly due to things revolving around our children, but it’s still going. (Another child has transitioned out of the nap stage, which is requiring a change to our routine. It’s really funny actually—about the time I get a good routine going, something changes and I go back to the old drawing board. *grin* What’s that old saying? The only constant in life is change?)

I’ve had a fairly good first half of the year, considering everything.

Looking out at the rest of 2022, I’m cautiously optimistic. Summer tends to be a good writing season for me, but this year there are a few things that will have a bit of an impact on that.

One of those things is the fact that my husband had major back surgery this past Monday. He’ll be recovering from that for at least six weeks, plus probably a few more months of light duty while everything continues to heal. (The surgery was much needed, and we are so grateful for how the Lord worked everything out for him to have it.)

The Finder Series

Even with everything going on, I’ve made a lot of progress on finishing these two interconnected books. Hoping to have something to announce in the next couple of months.

Both the drafting and editing processes are going well. I’ve just hit a point with the second book where I’m ready to tear my hair out…which usually means something is getting ready to break loose and I’ll go zooming off on the rollercoaster ride to the finish. LOL.

My husband always laughs when I tell him things like this. “Don’t you control these characters?” he asks. I always shake my head and tell him that, no, my characters usually take on lives of their own and they don’t exactly want to listen to what I think they should do. That’s part of what makes this writing gig such an interesting business.

The Guardians

I’ve written a couple of scenes that popped into my head, but on the whole I’m still putting this series back into my head. We will get there.

Miscellaneous Writing Updates

Nothing much to report at the moment. Once I finish editing Finder Books 4 and 5, I’m thinking I might be able to get back to the small-town romance series I’m developing in between working on The Guardians Book 5. We shall see.

Onward to the second half of 2022.

Hope all of y’all have a good 4th of July!
