I don’t know about any of y’all, but the last few weeks turned out to be quite a bit busier than I anticipated. I fully intended to write several blog posts about various things, but as you can see, it didn’t happen.
Despite all the busyness, my summer is off to a good start. Sunshine, green leaves, iced coffee, and the front porch. 🙂 Plus, the last few weeks have still been pretty productive.
I finished the rough draft of Lady Ink the end of May, and since then I’ve been writing Book 3 of The Guardians and working on the edits for TOSOTH. I finished implementing the first round of edits yesterday (which were all the piddly little changes like spelling, typos, name changes, ect.) and then I’ll start smoothing out a few plot issues that cropped up. It’s going to be a fun story; I’m really looking forward to publishing it.^_^
While I was finishing up Lady Ink, however, I ran into a few interesting obstacles. I wrote the story’s grand climax and thought that would be the end of it, but to my astonishment the characters kept going… and going…until I realized there was no way I was going to be able to wrap up the last few subplots before the end of the book. (It was like wrestling the literary equivalent of an octopus, with it occasionally sprouting an extra appendage.) My characters basically held the final chapters hostage until I gave up and accepted that Lady Ink will probably require a sequel to finish the story properly. Go figure. 😛
But, that’s half the fun of writing–following characters on their journeys. Love it when things take twists and turns I didn’t anticipate…even if it means writing an extra book. 🙂
For those of you in the U.S., have a good 4th of July!
Sounds like you’ve had a productive start to the summer!
Yep, it’s been pretty good, all things considered.:-)
