Welcome to my world… Won’t you come on in?

It’s alive! *mad cackle*

Ahem. Yes. Well, on a more serious note…

Hi, y’all. 🙂

Welcome to my website, home of the upcoming The Guardians series and the many other projects I have in the works. Reaching this point has been a long, winding road filled with various detours, but I am so pleased to finally be here.

A little background on me:

I come from a large, homeschooling family and have been telling stories since I could string more than three words together. Learning to put them on paper—and then a computer screen—meant I didn’t drive my family quite as crazy. (The old manual typewriter I got at a yard sale for two bucks when I was ten, however, did. My mother made me type outside. Looking back, I don’t blame her. I usually wanted to write in the afternoons when my youngest siblings were asleep and that thing was loud.)

Being a storyteller who deals in the written word is my passion. That is not to say writing isn’t hard work—it is—but hard work is easier when you’re doing something you love. There’s also the fact that for me, writing is more of a compulsion. I don’t just want to write; I need to write. Even on the days I have to drag words out one letter at a time.

If I wasn’t a writer, I’d be a librarian.

Science fiction and mystery are my two favorite genres, with a dollop of fantasy and romance mixed in for good measure.

Among the biggest influences on my writing are Agatha Christie, Rex Stout, C. S. Lewis, Michael Stackpole, Aaron Allston, and Mark Twain, because they created characters who stayed with me long after I’d put their books aside. A good plot is essential, but I believe it’s ultimately the characters who drive and shape it by their actions, reactions, hopes, and fears. Those are stories I love, and those are the stories I’m striving to create.

You can’t have too many good stories. I’d take a towering pile of books patiently waiting to be read over an empty bookshelf any day ending in “y”.
